Lullab.ai

Listen now to one of my earliest recordings, remastered after 18 years!

In 2005, when I was 18, I recorded what I consider to be the first Right Words track, my cover of The Cure’s ‘Lullaby’.

In 2023 I came to realise that 18 years had passed since that recording!

To celebrate (reflect?) on the fact that it’s now the same age I was, I figured it was due for a remaster.

This wasn’t going to be hard enough, right? So I issued myself a challenge:

Apply everything I’ve learnt about music production in the time since, to improve the track WITHOUT re-recording anything.

Upon locating the original project files and application on one of my old hard drives, I set about getting everything into Logic. But I hit a snag once I got to the vocal track: In my ignorance, I had recorded without headphones, and the bleed of the original mix was far too prominent to blend with the new mix of the backing track.

I took the L and put the project aside, thinking that was that, until something amazing happened: The Beatles released ‘Now and Then’, and I thought… What if I used the same AI/ML tech to clean up the vocal track?

I got everything set up and fed the old vocal track through it. Surely this wouldn’t work THAT well right?

Well, after a few attempts using different algorithms provided, it worked! I could finish the project!

After a couple more passes at the mix, I arrived at this version of the track you can hear on my website. I’ve also included the original for comparison!

Anyway, hope you enjoy Lullab.ai
